Access Montpelier Court Docket

Start any Montpelier court docket search with the county's trial courts rather than a city court. The local city court no longer operates. A docket here may list a traffic case, an ordinance matter, a hearing date, or the full filing history in one running summary. Indiana's public case system gives you a first route in, while the Blackford County Clerk holds the official court file behind it. You can search by case number, citation, or party name. Once results appear, confirm the court code and case type so you know which court handled the matter. For older city-court records, ask the Clerk directly, since those files sit outside the online system and need staff help to reach.

Montpelier Records Use Hartford City

Montpelier is a Blackford city, but the county courthouse and Clerk are in Hartford City at 110 West Washington Street. The Clerk publishes weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and phone 765-348-1130. That office is the in-person fallback for a certified Montpelier judgment, an older paper record, or a public document not linked in MyCase.

Call before travel. Official sources did not identify a public-terminal location, parking plan, or separate Montpelier court-records counter. Ask whether the Clerk has custody, what details a request needs, and what copy charge applies.

The Montpelier Municipal Court

There is no active Montpelier Municipal Court in the current Indiana Rule 8 list or MyCase selector. The former Blackford/Montpelier City Court used code 05H02, but Indiana marks that identifier abolished. Do not choose 05H02 as the present venue for a new ticket or ordinance case. It remains useful only when an old index, citation, or paper docket bears that code.

Current Montpelier ordinance and infraction matters route under Blackford's posted local rule to Superior Court. The court's official case summary is the Chronological Case Summary, often shortened to CCS. It is a dated event list, not merely a city police record. A police report, ordinance text, council minute, or code-enforcement file may remain with a city office instead.

Montpelier City Files Stay Separate

A Montpelier ordinance, council minute, police report, or code-enforcement file may belong to city government. A CCS entry, judgment, pleading, or court order belongs to the judicial file held by the Blackford County Clerk. Describe the item instead of asking broadly for all Montpelier records. The name of the custodian matters as much as the city name.

No active Montpelier municipal portal or daily city calendar was located. MyCase is the search start for a current judicial case. A city office is the start for its own administrative or legislative file.

Montpelier Court Dates and Settings

MyCase is the main public calendar route because no separate Montpelier daily court calendar was found. Open the result and read the most recent CCS events before relying on an older setting. A chronological entry may show a hearing scheduled, continued, vacated, or completed. Blackford local rules also allow schedules to change through court orders, so a printed result can age quickly. Confirm an imminent appearance with the court named in the case.

DateThe scheduled date shown in the latest CCS event.
TimeThe listed start time, which may be a docket call rather than a unique appointment.
Court05D01 Superior or 05C01 Circuit, not the abolished 05H02 court.
JudgeThe judicial officer assigned to the event or case.
Setting TypeArraignment, pretrial, bench trial, jury trial, review, or another stated event.

Montpelier's 05H02 History

A current Blackford case number starts with county code 05, followed by the court code and filing year. For example, 05D01 points to Blackford Superior Court, while 05C01 points to Blackford Circuit Court. The final letters show the case-type group, and the last digits identify the sequence. These pieces prevent a Montpelier searcher from mistaking the place where conduct occurred for the court that now holds the case.

05 county   D01 Superior Court   year filed   type case group   sequence file number

An old 05H02 code points to the abolished Montpelier court. Preserve it in a Clerk request. It can help staff find a legacy index even though it should never be used to describe an active tribunal.

Montpelier Traffic Tickets

A ticket issued in Montpelier does not go to an active city-court docket. Check Blackford Superior Court first. MyCase accepts a case number, citation number, or name. Indiana also operates a public traffic-ticket search and payment page, but payment availability varies by court. Match the name, citation, filing county, and case type before acting.

The Clerk page says local traffic payments are accepted by cash or money order. It does not publish a complete set of local deferral or contest procedures. A person who wants to contest a citation should contact the court before the response date rather than assume that payment and contest options share the same steps. The countywide distinctions are explained with the Blackford County traffic court records.

Montpelier Federal Records Are Separate

Montpelier had 1,540 residents in the 2020 Census. That does not determine whether a case is state or federal. Bankruptcy cases from Blackford County use the Northern District of Indiana bankruptcy court's Fort Wayne division. The bankruptcy court website provides that distinct federal route.

The bankruptcy portal is not a substitute for MyCase when the Montpelier matter is a state ticket, ordinance, civil, or criminal case.

The court's district composition page confirms the federal division.

Venue must come from the actual filing, not a guess based on the city.

Where Montpelier Cases End Up

Venue follows the Blackford assignment rule, not a current Montpelier municipal tier. Small claims, infractions, ordinance violations, protective orders in most situations, and many criminal matters go to Superior Court. Circuit Court receives probate, juvenile, mental-health commitments, and the most serious criminal levels, with other civil work assigned under local rules.

Search MyCase with Blackford County selected, then let the court code confirm the destination. The Blackford County court docket overview supplies the broader county workflow without treating Montpelier as an active court.

Montpelier Appeals and Free Copies

MyCase is broad, but it is not a full document archive. Older records may not be online. A public case can appear without every pleading or order attached. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, mental-health, and other excluded material may be absent or limited. No result does not prove that no Montpelier court record exists.

Use the fallback chain when the portal stops short: call the Clerk, use the official Clerk contact form, visit during published hours, or send a focused written request. Include the exact name used in the case, an approximate filing date, citation or case number, court code if known, and the precise item sought. Ask about cost and delivery before ordering. A MyCase printout is an online view, not a certified court copy.

A federal appeal from Indiana goes to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

For some federal material, CourtListener and RECAP offer a free, non-government access alternative.

RECAP may be incomplete. Verify any federal record with the originating court, and use MyCase for the ordinary Montpelier state docket.

Public Access to Montpelier Court Records

Indiana court records start with a presumption of public access, but court-specific Access Rules govern the judicial file. Administrative Rule 9 requires courthouse access during regular hours and a reasonable response time. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act governs many agency records, yet it does not override the judiciary's rules for excluded court material. That split matters when a Montpelier request could belong to City Hall, police, or the county Clerk.

Key Rules:

Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4 creates the general access rule while allowing stated exclusions.

Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 5 identifies excluded cases, documents, and personal data.

Indiana Access to Public Records Act applies to public-agency records outside the special court-record framework.

Access Rule 9 provides a verified written-request process for some excluded records, with notice, a hearing, and a written order. It is not a promise of release. Ask the Clerk which procedure fits the requested Montpelier material and avoid sending sensitive personal data through a general inquiry.

Montpelier Court Archive Requests

An older Montpelier file may sit outside the online date range. Give the Blackford County Clerk the historical 05H02 code, exact name, approximate year, citation number if known, and the type of entry or document sought. Ask whether staff must check a paper index and whether the file can be inspected at the Hartford City courthouse.

Do not call 05H02 an active court. Its value is archival. For a current Montpelier citation, start with Blackford Superior Court 05D01 and let the current case number control.
