How to Search Criminal Dockets
Indiana MyCase serves both active Blackford County courts. No account is needed. Anyone can search for free. Pick Case when you know a case number, citation number, or cross-reference. Pick Name when all you have is a person. Then add at least one more name field or a birth date. Set the court filter to Blackford County and choose Criminal & Citation.
An exact identifier beats a name every time. MyCase takes the case number without hyphens or leading zeros. A code like 05D01-YYMM-CM-000123 is only a format example. It is not a real case.
- Open MyCase and choose Case or Name.
- Select Blackford County.
- Add the criminal category, status, or filing range.
- Open the match and confirm its court code.
- Ask the Clerk for a missing public document.
Blackford Criminal Search Fields
Case number, citation number, and cross-reference are alternatives. Combining them is a mistake. Name searches support sounds-like matching plus a trailing wildcard. For the full rules and the 1,000-result cap, read the official MyCase search tips.
| Field | Best use | Local clue |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Known file | Starts 05C01 or 05D01 |
| Citation | Ticket-linked case | Enter alone |
| Name | Unknown number | Use two identifying fields |
| File date | Narrow results | Not the hearing date |
Before trusting a result, check the caption, filing date, case type, and current court.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
Indiana names the chronological event list the Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. A Blackford County criminal case summary opens with the court. The header then gives the number, filing date, status, case type, and caption. Charges, offense dates, and statutes can follow. So can bonds, counsel, hearings, orders, disposition events, and financial entries. Where remote access is allowed, linked documents sit inside the events themselves.
| Charge | An allegation, statute, and degree, not a finding. |
|---|---|
| Hearing | Date, time, type, judge, result, or cancellation when shown. |
| Disposition | Plea, dismissal, verdict, sentence, or other resolution. |
| Document | A linked image when remote public access is permitted. |
Read the latest events first, then trace backward, because status alone cannot show how each count ended.
Blackford Criminal Case Codes
Indiana Administrative Rule 8 supplies the code system. 05C01 means Blackford Circuit Court. 05D01 means Blackford Superior Court. MR identifies murder, F1 through F6 identify felony levels, and CM identifies criminal misdemeanors. A transfer can change the court prefix while retaining the filing sequence.
The official case-number rule appears in this assigned source image.

The rule ties a Blackford County criminal docket number to its court and category.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
A Blackford County criminal docket often opens with a new filing. An information is the document that states the charges. The initial hearing covers rights and sets later dates. Local rules tie it to an omnibus date. They also set a pretrial conference and a felony jury setting. From there, motions, plea activity, trial settings, orders, and sentencing entries pile into the CCS.
Docket flow: Filing › Initial Hearing › Omnibus and Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
“Information Filed” means an accusation was filed, not that guilt was established. A trial setting likewise proves nothing about whether a trial occurred. Read later entries and the final order before drawing conclusions.
Blackford Hearing Terms Decoded
Local terms distinguish preparation dates from final outcomes.
- Initial hearing
- An early setting for rights and scheduling.
- Omnibus date
- A procedural deadline tied to motions.
- Pretrial conference
- A setting for discovery, pleas, motions, and trial planning.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move to a later date.
- Disposition
- The event resolving a case or count.
Under Blackford County rules, a continuance request must be filed in writing. Keep in mind that a motion alone shifts nothing. The hearing date stands until the court grants it.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
The Blackford local rule sets the felony assignment. Murder, older Class A through C felonies, and Level 1 through Level 5 felonies land in Circuit Court. One exception applies. A lead charge alleging a Title 9 violation stays out of that assignment. All other criminal matters go to Superior Court, subject to agreed workload changes.
| Court | Code | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Blackford Circuit Court | 05C01 | Most serious felonies |
| Blackford Superior Court | 05D01 | Other criminal, infraction, ordinance cases |
Superior Court remains active in 2026, though enacted law schedules its abolition at the end of 2028. Search whichever court the case itself shows.
Blackford Missing Document Route
MyCase is not a complete document archive. Retry the exact number first, and confirm you have the proper court. For a missing public filing, contact the Blackford County Clerk. The office sits at 110 W. Washington, Hartford City, IN 47348. The phone is 765-348-1130. Give the case number, court, document date, desired format, and whether you need certification.
The Clerk counter is open Monday through Friday. Hours run 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. under the published county schedule. Indiana Administrative Rule 9 requires public court records to be available at the courthouse during regular hours. A reasonable response time is part of the rule. Call before you travel. Ask about custody and inspection arrangements. Ask about copy cost and whether staff can print a linked public document. The clerk offers no public kiosk, mail-copy process, drop-box route, or general turnaround promise.
The official Clerk contact form can route an initial question. But it is not a formal records-request form. It offers no attachment or certification option. When a response record matters, send a focused written request instead. Name the custodian, court, case, event date, exact document, and requested certification. The directory also lists Clerk fax 765-348-7234; ask before sending an order by fax. For parties to a case, Indiana party-access instructions explain the extra viewing rights.

A party's authenticated view can exceed public access while still following court rules.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Indiana rules begin with public access, then carve out records protected for privacy, safety, or fair process. So a Blackford County criminal docket may omit sealed or expunged matters, protected identifiers, treatment records, and supervision material. A failed search proves nothing. No case may still exist. Access Rule 1 states the governing framework.

Access Rule 2 spells out the balance between access and protected interests.

It provides equal basic public access while allowing greater authenticated access for authorized users.
Blackford Protection Order Search
Protection orders use the Indiana Protection Order Registry, not the ordinary protected-person name search in MyCase. The separate path means an absent MyCase result cannot establish that no order exists.
The registry route appears in this source image.

The registry covers only this restricted category of orders. It does not replace MyCase for ordinary Blackford County criminal docket work. Expungement can also change what the public sees, so a missing case never explains itself; ask the Blackford County Clerk about the lawful access route.
Blackford Docket Reading Checks
Reading a Blackford County criminal docket takes care. Keep three things apart. These are what was alleged, what was scheduled, and what the court actually decided. Begin with the case header and the current court. Then sort the CCS events into stages. Stages include filing, service, hearing, motion, order, and disposition. When a document link appears, open it. Then compare the signed order against that shorter event label. If no image is linked, the event is visible. But the underlying filing was not available remotely.
Money entries deserve equal care. MyCase itself warns that an online balance can lag behind reality. For a current balance, the Blackford County Clerk is the official source. Keep this in mind. A bond entry, fee assessment, or payment event does not by itself describe the final result of the charge. The judgment and sentencing entries supply that context.
For notes, preserve the exact case number. Include the Blackford court code, the access date, the public URL, and the wording of the relevant event. Do not copy birth dates, account numbers, addresses, or other protected identifiers. Stick to court action that the public record supports.
Blackford Clerk Request Details
A precise request helps the Blackford County Clerk pull the right public file fast. Say whether the matter sits in Blackford Circuit Court or Blackford Superior Court. Include the case number and a narrow event or filing date. Add the document title if known. State whether you want inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy. Ask about the applicable charge and delivery method before paying. The county page does not publish a general certified-copy price for every criminal record product.
Two links cover the ground. The Blackford County Clerk page lists the local office and its published court-cost information. The Indiana public court-records page explains that linked MyCase documents are free to view. It also notes that missing public documents require contacting the Clerk. The channels complement each other. Use the statewide portal to find and track a case; the local office controls the official file and authentication.
Know which product you need before ordering. A CCS printout, a plain copy of an information, and a certified judgment are different things. The CCS gives the dated event history. The filed information states the allegations. A judgment or sentencing order records the court's action. Certification authenticates a copy, but it cannot add documents that are confidential or outside the file. Ordering a large set of pages? Ask first. Ask the Clerk whether simple inspection would answer your question.
Note: Specify a case and a document. Do not ask the Clerk to run a broad name-based investigation.
